How to Use Dextr With Multiple Devices

Dextr is designed to work across your Apple devices. You can add and edit contact information from any device where Dextr is installed, while one Primary Sync Device keeps Apple Contacts up to date.

How Multiple-Device Sync Works

Your Dextr data syncs between devices through iCloud. Changes you make in Dextr on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac are available everywhere you use Dextr.

To ensure robust integration in iOS and macOS, Dextr connects directly to Apple Contacts from only one device. This is your Primary Sync Device.

The flow is simple:

1. Add or edit contact information in Dextr on any device.
2. Dextr syncs the change across your devices through iCloud.
3. Your Primary Sync Device updates Apple Contacts the next time you open Dextr.
4. Apple syncs the updated contact library across your Apple devices.

Your Primary Sync Device is only the bridge to Apple Contacts. It does not limit where you can use Dextr or edit your contacts.

Choosing Your Primary Sync Device

We recommend choosing the device you carry most often when exchanging contact information—usually your everyday iPhone. This gives Dextr the best opportunity to keep Apple Contacts current.

You can change your Primary Sync Device later, so this choice is not permanent.

Set Up Dextr on Your Primary Sync Device

1. Make sure the device is signed in to the same iCloud account you use on your other Apple devices.
2. Download Dextr from the App Store and open it.
3. Follow onboarding and grant access to Apple Contacts when prompted.
4. Complete setup and allow the initial Contacts Sync to finish.

Add Dextr to Your Other Devices

After your Primary Sync Device is ready:

1. Install Dextr on another device using the same iCloud account.
2. Open Dextr and wait for the initial iCloud sync to finish.
3. Complete any device-specific onboarding steps.

Secondary devices do not need direct access to Apple Contacts. You can still add and edit contact information in Dextr, and those changes will be sent through your Primary Sync Device to Apple Contacts.

Switch Your Primary Sync Device

To use a different device for Contacts Sync, open Dextr on that device, go to Settings → Contacts Sync, and choose Make This My Primary Device.

Switching is useful when you replace your phone or begin using another device as your everyday carry.
