How to Attach, View, and Link Files in Dextr

Download Dextr on the App Store
A blue paper folder holds documents, a photo and a video, connected by blue ribbons to a portrait and calendar.

Keep a document, photo, or video with the people and events it belongs to. Dextr lets you add files to a central library, attach them to a contact, or save them on an event—then return to the same file from any of those places.

This guide follows a sample conference photo linked to Alex Morgan and a Design Conference event at the Chicago Cultural Center. All screenshots use dark mode and sample data.

Where You Can Upload and View Files

Files library: open Settings from Home, then Files on iPhone. This is where you can browse your saved files and import something before deciding who or what to link it to. On layouts with a Files tab or sidebar item, open Files there.

Contact: open a person and tap the Files button beneath their name. The count shows how many files are attached to that person.

Event: open an event and scroll to its Files section. Attachments appear alongside the event’s date, location, notes, and people.

File details: open a file from the library, or tap its information button on a contact or event. Its Events and Contacts sections show the records linked to it.

Upload From the Files Library

1. Open Files and tap the + button.

2. Choose Import from Files for a document or another file saved on your device or in an available Files location. Choose Import from Photos for photos or videos. On an iPhone with a camera available, choose Take Photo to capture something new.

3. Select the items and confirm the system picker. The imported files appear in the library.

Add Files to a Contact

1. Open the contact. Tap Files beneath their name.

2. Tap + in the person’s Files screen. Import from Files, import from Photos, or take a photo. A file added here is attached to this contact.

3. If the file is already in Dextr, choose Link Existing Files instead. Select the file or files and confirm with Link.

Return to the same Files button whenever you want to view the person’s attachments. Tap a file to preview it, or tap its information button to see its linked records.

Add Files to an Event

1. Open the event in its normal viewing mode and scroll to Files.

2. Tap + beside the Files heading. Choose an import option for something new, or Link Existing Files for a file already saved in Dextr.

3. Complete the import or select the existing file and confirm. It now appears in the event’s Files section.

An event also has Add Photo or Video at the top for its banner. Use that control when you want an image or video to represent the event; use the Files section for its supporting attachments.

1. In the central Files library, switch to list view and open a file to see its details. From a contact or event attachment, use the information button.

2. Tap + beside Events to choose an event. If you need one, choose New Event, fill in its title, date, location, and notes, then save.

3. Tap + beside Contacts, select the people, and confirm.

You can link a file to more than one person or event. Linking an existing file connects it to another record instead of importing a second copy. Open a linked contact or event directly from file details to return to its context.

Find and Manage Your Uploads

Use the category control to browse all files, photos and videos, or documents. Switch between list and grid views when available, and use the sort menu to organize by name, kind, date, or size.

To rename a file, open its actions menu or press and hold its row and choose Rename. Use a clear name such as Design-conference so you can recognize it from the library, the person, and the event.

Removing a link from one person or event and deleting the file are different actions. Check the confirmation before deleting a file that is connected to several records.

If Dextr displays a subscription prompt for Files, follow that prompt to see the access required for your plan.
