How to Set Stay-in-Touch Reminders in Dextr

You meant to ask how the new job was going. You promised to send an article after coffee. Then a busy week became a month, and the moment slipped past.

Dextr reminders help you make room for those small acts of care. Put the next step beside the person it concerns, add the details you will want later, and choose a schedule that fits the relationship.

This guide follows Maya Chen, who is starting a design club at Austin Central Library. You will set a monthly check-in and a separate reminder to send the workshop ideas you promised.

Quick route: Home → Reminder → choose a contact → add a title and notes → choose Calendar or Stay in Touch → tap the checkmark.

Choose the right kind of reminder

Use Stay in Touch for an ongoing connection: checking in with a friend, catching up with a former coworker, or asking how a project is going. You choose the maximum number of days, weeks, or months between check-ins. Dextr uses the contact’s recorded interaction history to calculate the next date shown in the form.

Use Calendar for a particular date or repeating calendar schedule: sending a resource next Friday, calling before a trip, or preparing for a regular meeting. You can include a specific time and time zone.

A person can have a Stay in Touch reminder and separate Calendar reminders. Keeping those purposes separate lets a monthly catch-up coexist with a promise that needs attention this week.

1. Start a reminder from Home

Tap Home in the bottom menu, then tap Reminder in the Add New area.

Tap Home, then choose Reminder in Add New.

Tap Search Contacts, enter a name if needed, and choose the correct person. Their name and relation to you appear at the top of the form.

Give the reminder a title that makes the next action clear. “Check in on Maya’s design club” is more useful than “Follow up.” Add notes that will help you begin the conversation: “Ask how the October workshops are going and whether the all-ages activities were useful.”

2. Set a Stay in Touch interval

Choose Stay in Touch in the selector beneath the notes. Under Between Check-Ins, set the number beside No More Than, then tap the unit to choose day, week, or month.

For Maya, choose 1 month. Read the next reminder date beneath the interval before saving. In this example, the recorded coffee was September 25, so the form shows October 25.

Tap the checkmark in the upper-right corner to save. Dextr confirms Reminder Created; use View Reminder to open it immediately.

You can have one active Stay in Touch reminder per person. If Dextr says one already exists, open that reminder and edit its interval instead of adding another.

Start from a contact’s profile

You can create and review reminders while looking at the person:

  1. Open Contacts and select the person.
  2. Tap the bell tab beneath their contact actions.
  3. Tap the plus (+) beside Reminders.
  4. Add the title, notes, and schedule, then save with the checkmark.

Open the bell tab to review a person’s reminders; tap the plus to add another.

Starting here keeps the person selected for you. The list also makes it easy to see the difference between a specific task and an ongoing check-in. Maya has a dated reminder to send workshop ideas and a monthly reminder to ask how the club is going.

If the tab is empty, use Add Reminder to begin.

Set a Calendar reminder for a promise

For a task with a deadline, choose Calendar in the reminder form.

For the workshop example:

  1. Use “Send Maya three workshop ideas” as the title.
  2. Add the note “Send three activities for the October design club, plus Jordan’s introduction.”
  3. Tap the date and choose October 2.
  4. Turn on Include Time, then set 5:00 PM and check the Time Zone.
  5. Leave Repeat set to Never for this one-time task.

Set a date and time for a specific promise. Turn off Autocomplete on Contact when a general conversation should not finish the task.

Decide whether Autocomplete on Contact fits the task. When it is enabled, calling or messaging the person from Dextr on or after the due date can mark the reminder complete.

For a specific promise such as sending those workshop ideas, turn it off if a general call or message should not count as finishing the task. You can mark it complete yourself after doing the work.

Check the details and tap the upper-right checkmark to save.

Repeat a Calendar reminder

Open Repeat to choose a regular schedule. Options include Daily, Weekdays, Weekends, Weekly, Every 2 Weeks, Monthly, longer monthly intervals, and Yearly.

Use Repeat for a regular calendar schedule, or choose Custom for more options.

Choose Custom when you need a different interval or a more specific pattern. Review the resulting schedule before saving. Choose Never when the reminder should happen only once.

A repeating Calendar reminder follows its calendar schedule. Stay in Touch is the choice for a check-in interval associated with a person.

Complete, edit, or stop a reminder

Open a reminder by tapping its row in the contact’s bell tab. The saved reminder shows the title, notes, schedule, and controls for calling or messaging the person.

After completing the task or check-in, tap the round checkmark at the top. You can also use the empty circle beside a reminder in a list. Completing a recurring reminder creates its next occurrence; completing a one-time reminder finishes that task.

Use the top checkmark to complete a reminder, or the three-dot menu to edit its details.

To change a title, note, date, or interval, open the three-dot menu, choose Edit, make your changes, and tap the checkmark to save.

Choose Edit to change the reminder or Delete to stop it.

To stop a reminder, use Delete in that menu and read the confirmation. For a recurring reminder, this also stops its recurrence. Use Edit when you simply want a different schedule.

On the contact’s Reminders tab, expand Completed when it is available to review finished reminders.

Let recorded interactions support the next check-in

When a Stay in Touch reminder is due or overdue, initiating a call or message through Dextr can complete it and create the next check-in. Completing it yourself also starts the next interval from that completion date.

For a conversation that happens elsewhere, record a Journal Entry with the correct date and a short summary. This keeps the conversation in the person’s history. A journal entry recorded for today can also complete an eligible due reminder. Open the reminder afterward to review its next date.

Dextr does not need to read the contents of your conversations for this workflow. Do not assume that every call or message made outside Dextr will be detected.

Before reaching out, read the person’s latest journal entry. Afterward, save anything worth remembering and add a separate Calendar reminder for a new promise.

Keep that next step in sight with Dextr Home Screen widgets. Today shows due reminders; Favorites and large Quick Actions help you start calls and texts through Dextr so eligible reminders can stay in step with your outreach.

For the calling steps, see Making Calls Using Dextr. It shows the Home and widget shortcuts, how to review the call afterward, and how to save the details before your next check-in.

Review reminders and enable notifications

Open Home to review reminders that are due today or overdue. Use the person’s bell tab or Dextr’s Calendar to look ahead at scheduled reminders.

For alerts, open Home → Settings using the gear button, then choose Notifications. Make sure Reminders is enabled.

Allow notifications in iOS Settings, then enable Reminders in Dextr’s notification preferences.

If Dextr says notifications are disabled, tap Open iOS Settings and allow notifications for Dextr, then return to the app. The switches inside Dextr cannot enable alerts while iOS permission is disabled.

Dextr’s reminder notifications include a morning summary and alerts for reminders with a specific date and time. If alerts are still being silenced, check the active Focus; Apple explains how to allow an app’s notifications through a Focus.

You can still open Dextr and review the saved reminders when notifications are off.

Build a rhythm you can keep

Start with a few people you want to stay close to. Choose an interval you can maintain and adjust it when the relationship or your circumstances change.

If you are unsure where to begin, Dextr AI can suggest a Stay in Touch schedule. Choose a suggested interval or use Custom to add a title and notes before saving. After an event or a useful conversation, a short note and one clear next step can turn a good intention into a connection you keep.
