Your contacts can hold years of your life: people you worked with, neighbors from an old address, someone you met at a workshop, and names you can no longer place. You probably remember more about those people than their contact cards reveal. Finding the time to sort through everything is the hard part.
Dextr AI gives you a manageable place to start. It brings forward useful questions, one person at a time, so you can decide who to keep, record how you know them, and make room for the next conversation.
A few minutes can turn “Who was this?” into “We worked together on the neighborhood workshop—and I wanted to check in next month.”
Open Dextr AI from Home
Tap Home in the bottom menu, then tap the colorful Dextr AI card when suggestions are available. The card shows how many suggestions are ready.
Read the question at the top of each card. Depending on the contact’s information and your activity in Dextr, you may be asked to keep or archive someone, choose their relation to you, confirm where you first met, or set a Stay in Touch reminder.
The questions can appear in a different order from this guide. Work through the ones you can answer, and use Skip for Now when you need more time.
Decide whom to keep in your active contacts
A review card asks “Would you like to keep this person in your contacts?” The person’s name, organization, role, phone numbers, and email addresses can help you recognize them. Tap their name to look at the contact’s profile if you need more context.
Choose the response that fits:
- Keep confirms that this is someone you know and want to retain. Dextr can then ask how they relate to you.
- Archive moves the contact out of active use while keeping their record in Dextr. You can restore it later from Settings → Archived Contacts.
- Skip for Now postpones the decision so Dextr can return to the contact later.
For Nora Bennett, the organization and role bring the connection back: she is the community designer you worked with at Riverbend Design Studio. Choose Keep, then give that connection a useful label.
For a larger cleanup, our contact cleanup guide covers bulk archiving and restoring archived contacts. If the same person has multiple records, follow the duplicate-merging walkthrough to compare them and review the combined contact before merging.
Jog your memory before deciding
When a name still feels unfamiliar, tap Jog Your Memory. The menu offers ways to look for clues, including Search Facebook, Search IMDb, Search LinkedIn, and Check Messages when a suitable messaging option is available.
Choose the service that is likely to help. An old message thread or a professional profile may remind you of the project or occasion that brought you together. These choices open the selected service so you can look for that context yourself.
Return to Dextr and choose Keep, Archive, or Skip for Now. You can leave an uncertain contact for later without inventing a relationship or a meeting date.
Give the connection a Relation to You
After you choose Keep, Dextr can ask “What’s Nora’s relation to you?” Start with a group such as Friends, Family, Business, or Other.
For Nora, tap Business, then choose Colleague. The selected relation appears beside her name.
Check that label, then tap Set Relation to Me to save it.
This is your relation to Nora. You can separately connect two contacts or record who introduced you from the person’s profile. Those details describe different parts of the same relationship story.
You can update the classification later as the relationship changes.
Remember where you first met
For a recently imported contact, Dextr AI may suggest a recent event as the place you first met. Review the person, event name, date, and location before saving.
In this example, Priya Shah belongs with the Design Workshop at Austin Central Library.
If a different event is shown, tap the magnifying-glass button on the event row and select the correct one. Then tap Set First Met at Event. Dextr confirms First Met Event Set; tap Continue to move on.
Use Skip for Now when you cannot confidently place the meeting. Depending on the contact and the events available, you may instead get a First Met form for the date, place, event, and notes.
Later, open the profile and add a detail such as “Discussed accessible activities for the autumn workshops.” The Events guide explains how First Met connects to an event, and the Places guide shows how a familiar location helps you find people again.
Choose a rhythm for staying in touch
Dextr AI can also ask “How often would you like to stay in touch with this person?” The suggested intervals depend on the person and your activity in Dextr.
For Liam Patel, the card offers Every 2 Weeks, Monthly, Custom, and Never.
Tap a suggested interval to create a Stay in Touch reminder with that schedule. Choose Custom when you want to add a more useful title, include notes, or adjust the interval before saving.
Skip for Now postpones the choice. Never declines this reminder suggestion for the contact. You can still create a reminder yourself later if you change your mind.
Make a custom reminder useful
Tap Custom and give the reminder a clear purpose:
- Change the title to “Check in on Liam’s workshop plans.”
- Add notes: “Ask how the accessible design sessions are going and offer help with the next volunteer workshop.”
- Choose 1 month under Between Check-Ins.
- Review the next date displayed beneath the interval.
- Tap the upper-right checkmark to save.
When a Stay in Touch reminder is due or overdue, initiating a call or message through Dextr can complete it and schedule the next check-in. You can also complete it yourself.
The reminders guide covers the full workflow, including fixed-date Calendar reminders for specific promises. After the conversation, save a Journal Entry so the next check-in begins with what you last discussed.
Finish a few suggestions and come back later
You can close Dextr AI with the X whenever you want to stop. Some responses show a confirmation card with Continue; follow it to the next suggestion. You may also see short feature tips with Learn More and Next.
At the end of the review, Dextr shows a progress summary. Archived, Marked Known, and the relation-group counts describe your contact collection; they are not just a count of what you changed in that sitting.
If more suggestions are ready, use Continue to review another batch. All Finished! marks the end of the current review. You can return when Dextr has more suggestions.
To receive alerts, open Home → Settings → Notifications and enable Dextr AI. If notifications are disabled for Dextr in iOS, use Open iOS Settings to allow them first.
Small decisions, on your device
Dextr builds its contact suggestions on your device, using information already in Dextr and signals such as profile activity, connections, and recorded interactions. You provide the personal knowledge that makes those suggestions useful.
A simple way to build more recorded context is to begin calls and texts through Dextr. Add a Dextr Home Screen widget to make that habit easier to remember and keep the people you want to contact visible.
Start with the people you recognize. Keep the connections you value, add a little context, and choose a follow-up you can maintain. You do not need to organize your entire address book in one sitting to make the next conversation easier.
Follow Making Calls Using Dextr to put that habit into practice with Home Screen widgets. The guide explains how reviewing recorded calls and saving Journal Entries gives Dextr AI more useful context for Stay in Touch suggestions.
